Keeping it real: My Personal Health & Wellness Journey

This is wellness with Aaron, and I must share my health story.

Hey wellness readers my name is Aaron Betton, I am a Chicago native but soon to be Arizona transplant.

I felt led to share my own health story because I believe in vulnerability and as I embark on this journey to become a naturopathic physician I will hold space of vulnerability for my patient but first I must lead by example.

Wellness With Aaron came to be one day in mid-2018 while I was sitting on my couch fed up with work; I was working as a nurse at the time at a level 1 trauma center and it was stressful, being an empath (which I later found out) I was absorbing the energy and illnesses of my patients; I wanted so much for them to be healed that I sacrificed my physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. Though it may sound shitty, I am glad it happened, seeing the joy on my patients face, being that person in their last moments on Earth, or being with them when they received dx they weren’t ready for, being with them, standing with them, holding their hands, holding and creating space for them was well worth it. "through pain comes healing". Through all of this, I reached my dead-end of bedside when my Mind, Body, and Spirit couldn’t take anymore, however, these experiences helped to find my true self. I was coming home to the true me, my true calling.

At first, I just wanted to start a blog to make money, but my conscience was like Nah bruh you’re here to be of service to others but in another way...that led me to some deep soul searching.

my intention for this blog is to share my story of healing the MBS and finding my true wealth, to inspire all of you on your journey of health and wealth, and to be your teacher, your guide, and your friend. We all learn through experience and I believe my experience is what some of you need to reach the growth point on your journey.

health in the United States is viewed as a luxury something hard to obtain, at least that’s what I thought and that’s what I witnessed by working behind the scenes. It seemed that the true knowledge to the health of the mind, body, and spirit was a mystery and elusive, only given to the chosen ones. I noticed that sickness in the US is a moneymaker; physicians get made more money to prescribe than to actually heal their patients; I also noted that the majority of the medications given were only used to mask symptoms not address the root cause. another awakening point in my life.

At the age of 18, on Jan 27 2013 I had my first surgery, I was in my freshmen year of college and I was devastated, why is this happening, is there any other way, did I do something wrong, is god cursing me? all the thoughts that went through my mind. I had the surgery and it was "successful" months later I began having the same symptoms, I am now thinking wait surgery was the last option! did it not take, what happened? I see another physician, this time a Doctor of Osteopathy, and his approach was way more holistic. he ordered a scan which wasn’t warranted because the complaint was not back pain but through that, he discovered I had lower lumbar scoliosis that was pinching a nerve which he assumed was the true cause of my problem...SO WAIT I DIDNT HAVE to have SURGERY?...he says not really and suggested I see a chiropractor! I like WTF are they going to do (i was not aware of their scope of practice or if it worked ) but I was like hey I’m in pain and I want this gone, there’s no harm in trying. this was my first introduction into alternative medicine.... after 3 months of therapy, the pain was GONE!!!!!!!! Now I’m a bit shady of conventional medicine and doctors (another awakening).  4 years elapse I am a Registered Nurse and I begin working at the level 1 trauma center. A year later I have to another surgery.... this is no joke I needed it... but it made me change my diet. Through this, I now see the healing power of food!!! hmm, why is this not taught normally? why isn’t nutrition in school? this knowledge needs to be disseminated. Maybe then we would see a decrease in diseases now my third eye is really active. The Standard American Diet, it’s not valuable to anyone, it does not support holistic health, read more here.

Since I was a kid, I always knew I'd become a physician, but I chose to attain my BSN as a backup plan just in case. Long story short, not all the classes fulfilled the requirements for MD/DO school in the US, I applied to a post-bacc premed program and didn’t get in. So, in the fear mindset, I thought ok well I just continue working as a nurse I give up, being a doctor isn’t for me.

I am so grateful I did. Being a nurse was the best decision ever, it allowed me to intently interact with my patients, to begin to understand you can’t just heal the body, you have to heal the Mind, Body, and Spirit, the Trinity. Without the balance of the three, you will not have full healing. (my third eye wide open now) my boyfriend had me watch the Zeitgeist and I thought it was blasphemy! I was scared I thought I was going to hell...it was different than what I was taught in the church- the church I was told to leave at 19 years old and thank god the pastor did that, that put me on my spiritual journey and I’m glad about it-so I began to do some deep digging about spirituality outside of religion.

Religion was created by man to help humanity reach spirituality, but some teachers of religion have tainted the faith and have hindered the spiritual growth of humanity.

When I began to discover spirituality for myself, things began to change in my life, some good some bad, but it’s all neutral.

One of those was In 2019, I discovered SCNM a naturopathic medical school ( a what kind of school)? I didn’t even know this existed it honestly found me; it was my calling; I resonated so deeply with the philosophy of medicine. We are nature and nature are us. NDs incorporate nature, they incorporate holistic healing the Mind, Body, and Spirit; the address the root cause. This is the type of physician I will become. All worked out well I completed the requirements w/o any hiccups and I’m starting next week. WOW! I made it; I really am destined to become a doctor.

On July 27th, 2020 I was given a diagnosis that shook my world. A few weeks later I was dx with an additional genetic disorder...The universe must be playing with me; wtf is up? why is this happening, what did I do wrong? Those are not the questions you should ask; instead, ask what this is here to teach me, what can I learn from this. I had my moments of grief. Thankfully on 8/8 (lions gates), I was lying in bed with my boyfriend and the universe gave me an answer I just cried- the deepest, soul-wrenching cry-afterward I felt relief my mindset was renewed...things don’t happen to you, they happen for you. I am a master alchemist and I can turn this into gold. This when my mental health, physical, and spiritual practices had to come into play.

My true soul journey has been activated. I am here to provide HOPE (healing of planet earth)which  I will do that by healing it inhabitants, We are (Hue)man we come in many different light forms, but some of our light has been blocked; either by our physical health, our spiritual health or our mental health. Health is not just of the body...I am here to provide healing to all of those who I encounter on their journey of health and wellness because it is not just a destination it’s a journey y’all. A journey I don’t mind walking with you on.

So What Have I learned so far on my journey?

  1. Things don’t happen to you, they happen for you.

  2. “Things you are passionate about are not random, they are your calling” -unknown

  3. Put faith in The Universe, God, Allah, etc, and have faith in yourself.

  4. Health is not a destination, its a journey.

  5. We here to help each other grow.

If you have read this far thank you so much.

Every so often I will post stories about my journey of health, things that have worked for me, and things that weren’t so helpful. I will also provide holistic health coaching services to those who require it, I will also be sharing easy to digest and easy to implement health and wellness tips. I will spread the light that I hold to illuminate the path of natural holistic healing to those who seek it.

Ase and Namaste.
